Bastet and Anubis by m-lupus Bastet and Anubis by m-lupus
E eu amo deuses e coisas egípcias !!

One more attempt on CG! Yes, I know that this no my best Skill. I had made this to at a time behind and it was veeery bad and I tried to improve that. It is got better but nevertheless it is not very good yet. Now I think will go back to colored pencil.. but ok to evaluate this drawing and please give softly critique for this painting please.. hunff...
And I love Egyptian gods !!

Beautiful artwork.  I like the idea of Anubis and Bastet being lovers.  Maybe that has something to do with dogs and cats being the 2 main pets of mankind, who knows ?   Awesome !!!      :)

Some say she may have been married to both Anubis and Ptah.

Bastet's acually married to Anubis at one time in history. It's funny because something tells me you didn't know that, you just liked the idea. I'm here to let you know so did egypt =p. Anubis started as the son of Ra (or Re) and bastet was know as Bast the male lion god whom protected Ra, earning Bast the title of eye of Ra (which was elite god warriors). Bast was the god of protection and Anubis was the god of death. Now the Greek people and the people of Egypt were allies and some of the Greek gods adpted into the Egyptian gods, this made Bast turn to Bastet (which litterally means female) and become the cat god and the god of protection while still being an eye of Ra and also becomeing Ra's daughter while Anubis lost all conection to Ra and was free to love and marry Bastet. If you read the story of Bastet you'll note that she's married to another god and has a son with this god and then if you read about the son you'll note that his mother and fauther were not the same as Bastets lore told, this is easy to explain. Egyptian gods were not "set in stone" and towns didn't always communicate well (no internet or phones) with that being said towns would make their own little fan fics about the gods. What is 100% set of bastet is that she's the cat, protection, birth, family goddess and an eye of Ra. Others state that she's also the god of perfume (because egyptians would put their perfumes in bastets statues), danceing and singing (due to her pictures showing her holding a rattle) and sex, joy, domestic animals (not just cats) this is because of the holiday egypt had to worship Bastet and sex is because she's the god of birth, domestic animals was probably people still wanting to worship bastet they just like dogs more, so to make themselves feel better they said bastet loves all domestic animals.

Gagori .. I have to disagree with you. All of the research that I have done (and it is extensive) on Gods, Myths, Elders, Archons, EarthLords, Demons and Monsters has NEVER suggested that Bastet and Anubis were husband and wife, Ever! Mostly, up until some very recent digs it was thought that Bastet was Anubis's mother. The speculation (the accepted theory in the mythological community) is that Ra is Bastets father... although small factions of these professionals hypothesis that she was actually Ra's sister or Wife. We know only what we can decipher and make educated theories from.

In regards to her names deduction, I find it easiest to cut and paste ... hope you don't mind:
Bastet, the form of the name which is most commonly adopted by Egyptologists today, is a modern convention offering one possible reconstruction. In early Egyptian, her name appears to have been bȝstt, where ȝ represents an aleph. In Egyptian writing, the second t marks a feminine ending, but was not usually pronounced, and the aleph ȝ may have moved to a position before the accented syllable, as witnessed by the Aramaic spelling ȝbst. By the first millennium, then, bȝstt would have been something like 'obest' or 'ubesti' in Egyptian speech

~m-lupus your piece is lovely... I think you speak too harshly of yourself. This method suits you well and certainly nothing is perfect when you are new to it? I hope you do not discontinue this medium entirely as I see much promise in this piece :)

It may not be written in the mythology that currently exists, but there may yet be still undiscovered secrets to be discovered. Who knows? If not Bastet, who would have mothered Anubis' daughter? I'd have to agree with Gagori with the whole marriage.  And for your information, Egyptian mythology clearly states that Nephthys is Anubis' birth mother, and not Bastet. You may want to check your research.

I would be ever so grateful if you could provide me direction to corroborate the information that "clearly" states that Nephthys was Anubis' birth mother as I have one read speculation and theories. Thank You

Hmm... it's interesting that you chose to give Anubis the dagger in stead of Bast. After all, Bast is the goddess of war. Anyway... I really like it :D You did a great job ;)

I think that bastet is the god of the fertility, but she is the same god secmet (lioness face) that is more ferocious. sorry my english is bad.

Well... that's the thing with Egyptian deities. You never quite know what they are. Throughout time they have had different roles. At some point Isis was the goddess of fertility. At some other point Hathor was the goddess of fertility. And I guess Bast was also considered as the goddess of fertility for a short time, but I have to say that I have never heard that before. She is most commanly known as simply the goddess of cats or/and the goddess of war (often when linked to Sekhmet). When Egypt was 2 seperate kingdoms: Upper Egypt and Lover Egypt, Bast was actually the warrior goddess and the protector of Lower Egypt, while Sekhmet (the lioness) was the warrior goddess and the protector of Upper Egypt. However, when Upper and Lower Egypt unified, Sekhmet was the one who got the role as the warrior goddess and the protector of Egypt as well as the protector of Ra, while Bast was left with a minor role and sometimes even unified with Sekhmet. She just became, more or less, the goddess of cats. It's actually quite confusing XD And look at me; I'm totally getting carried away LOL! Sorry... I will shut up now ;)
